Postgraduate Researchers in Science Medicine (PRISM) Conference 2008

What is PRISM?
PRISM 2008 will follow on from the highly successful PRISM events in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The PRISM events provide an excellent opportunity to present work, discuss common issues and meet with researchers working in the area of healthcare and biomedical science.
PRISM 2008 for healthcare and biomedical science postgraduate research students in the North West, is jointly organised by The University of Liverpool and Postgrad Talent North West the North West Hub of the ‘researcher development’ programme.
The aims of PRISM:
- To showcase healthcare and biomedical science research in the North West
- To offer networking and career development opportunities for postgraduate research students (MPhil, PhD, MD, MRes) to meet colleagues, students and invited professionals
- To encourage collaboration across institutions and disciplines
- To enable students to present a poster or talk on the process of completing a PhD in healthcare or biomedical science or other aspects of the postgraduate research experience
Who is it for?
Any postgraduate researcher interested in healthcare and biomedical sciences studying in a North West institution
Participation will be limited to around 100 PGR students from North West Institutions. A book of abstracts will be available at the conference.
What will I learn?
The conference will offer an opportunity for you to share your research ideas, receive feedback on your presentations and give ample opportunity for you to network with other postgraduates from across the North West. In the afternoon there will be a series of workshops allowing you to explore both future career options and opportunities for skills development
Call for papers
- We now invite students to submit abstracts of work to be presented either as a poster or in a 10 minute talk (plus an additional 5 minutes for questions)
- Presentations or posters should be about your own research experience: please pitch this for a general biomedical/healthcare audience
- You should consider the processes you have used in your research and how these may be of interest to other researchers, or how other researchers could help you
- You may wish to discuss a particular research methodology you have used and how this may be applied in a wider context to research in healthcare / biomedical science
- Alternatively, your presentation could be on some aspect of the postgraduate research experience, e.g. reflections on the relationship between your research and your professional practice or career development.

- The conference will be open for registration on 16th June 2008. Please fill in the personal and abstract details on www.postgradtalentnw.co.uk/prism2008/register.asp.
- Registration closing dates:
- Monday 1st September 2008 for abstract submission
- Monday 8th September 2008 to register to attend without presentation
- Abstracts should be submitted online, without pictures or figures and should be no more than 150 words.
- As the conference is open to all science and medical researchers, abstracts will be selected on their clarity and appeal to a wide audience. Please avoid using overly technical language or abbreviations in the abstract text.
You will be notified of acceptance by email, shortly after the closing date.

Where is it?
The event will start with registration in the foyer of the Graduate School Suite at the main University of Liverpool campus. Marked as number 40 on the map at: http://www.liv.ac.uk/maps/precinctplan-2007b.pdf.
The campus is approximately 10 minutes walk from Liverpool Lime Street Train Station.
