Postgraduate Researchers in Science Medicine Conference 2007
Thursday 28th June 2007, University of Chester
What is PRISM?
PRISM 2007 will follow on from the highly successful PRISM events in 2004, 2005 and 2006. The PRISM events provide an excellent opportunity to present work, discuss common issues and meet with researchers working in the area of healthcare and biomedical science.
PRISM 2007 for healthcare and biomedical science postgraduate research students in the North West, is jointly organised by The University of Chester, Mersey Deanery, the University of Liverpool Centre for Lifelong Learning, and Postgrad Talent North West the North West Hub of the UK GRAD Programme.
The aims of PRISM
- To showcase healthcare and biomedical science research in the North West
- To offer networking opportunities for postgraduate research students (MPhil, PhD, MD, MRes) to meet colleagues, students and invited professionals
- To encourage collaboration across institutions and disciplines
- To enable students to present a poster or talk on the process of completing a PhD in healthcare or biomedical science or other aspects of the postgraduate research experience
Who is it for?
Any postgraduate researcher interested in healthcare and biomedical sciences studying in a North West institution
Participation will be limited to 100 PGR students from North West Institutions. A book of abstracts will be available at the conference.
What will I learn?
The conference will offer an opportunity to hear research experiences from across the North West and share common issues in postgraduate research. The afternoon session will provide the opportunity to explore common issues in postgraduate study, and give ample time to make new contacts from across the region.
Speakers with expertise and experience gained in the healthcare and biomedical sciences will offer sessions covering issues such as:
- Work:Life balance
- Handling your supervisor
- Time and Project Management
- Writing for your audience
- Critical Thinking for medical researchers
- How to conduct field study / research methodology
- How to collect and handle data
- Presenting
- Career progression for healthcare researchers
Call for papers
We now invite students to submit abstracts of work to be presented either as a poster or in a 10 minute talk (plus an additional 5 minutes for questions)
Presentations or posters should be about your own research experience: please pitch this for a general biomedical/healthcare audience
You should consider the processes you have used in your research and how these may be of interest to other researchers, or how other researchers may help
You may wish to discuss a particular research methodology you have used and how this may be applied in a wider context to research in healthcare / biomedical science
Alternatively, your presentation could be on some aspect of the postgraduate research experience, e.g. reflections on the relationship between your research and your professional practice or career development.
Abstract submission
Abstracts can be submitted on line at http://www.postgradtalentnw.co.uk/prism2007/register.asp.
